Why Physical Therapy?
Are you experiencing difficulty performing activities and want crucial movement back? Consulting with a physical therapist may lead to a solution. Physical therapy helps restore movement and function, improve health, and decrease pain. Physical therapy is a service that is commonly covered by your insurance.
If you are a healthy individual, physical therapists educate, consult, and work with clients to improve their health and performance. This is commonly a service not covered by insurance.
Doctors of Physical Therapy
Doctors of Physical Therapy are licensed to provide physical therapy services and have extensive training in the basic sciences, clinical reasoning, medical screening, motor control, biomechanics, kinesiology, health, and wellness.
For the patient this should translate to more effective treatment using the newest science-based rehabilitation principles.
Do You Need a Referral?
No! In Pennsylvania, you can be seen directly by a physical therapist. Physical therapists do not make a medical diagnosis but are qualified to determine if physical therapy is right for you. If improvement is not realized within 30 days of treatment the therapist will refer you to a physician.
Most insurance carriers do not require a referral to physical therapy.
Consulting directly with your physical therapist can save the expense of an extra visit to the physician for a physical therapy prescription.
If you are not seeking treatment for an injury but simply want your therapist to work with you to be more fit or perform better this would not require a referral.
